Italian Bundtwiches
Ingredients
For the Bread
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- egg, for egg wash
- sesame seeds
- 1/4 pound mortadella
- 1/4 pound Genoa salami
- 1/4 pound pepperoni
- 1/4 pound provolone cheese
- shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and Italian dressing
Instructions
- To make the bread: Combine 1/4 cup of the warm water with the yeast and sugar. Allow to bloom for 5 minutes.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the yeast mixture, an additional 1 cup warm water, flour, and salt. Knead with the dough hook for 5 minutes, or until the dough forms a soft ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- Place in a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Allow to rise 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Turn out onto a floured surface. Roll into a large rectangle, and roll up starting with the long edge into a roll.
- Place in a greased bundt pan, pinching the ends together.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Brush with egg wash and sprinkle on sesame seeds. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when tapped. Allow to cool completely.
- Cut in half, and layer on the lettuce, tomato, meats, and cheeses. Slice into wedges. Serve with dressing on the side.
Notes
Instead of making the bread dough, you can use 2 cans of French bread dough and pinch them together in the bundt pan.
