Day 4: Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies | 12 Days of Christmas Cookies

Today we are making my Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies! Like little mini red velvet cakes, soft, fluffy, and coated in sweet powdered sugar.

Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions
 

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugars. Add in the eggs, and scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl.
  • Stir in the vanilla, lemon juice, red food coloring, and milk.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly pour into mixer and stir until combined.
  • Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll the dough into 1 1/2-2 inch balls, and roll in powdered sugar. Place on parchment lined baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake about 12 minutes, or until slightly crispy on the edges. Cool on pan 5 minutes before moving to a wire rack to cool.
